Bodyshop
Several members have restoration projects underway as we endeavour to keep the Capri Legend Alive!
Mk  I  Project.
Our  youngest member Richard Hoult started this project at age 16! He had hoped to complete this in time for when he passed his driving test at 17. Now he is 20 and he is still trying to find an essential panel with little success! If you can help with sourcing the required panel please contact the club. Richard needs a front valence genuine Ford part please!

The project car is quite an interesting one a Mk I facelift model 1600 XL automatic with only two previous owners. It is all original condition with only 53,000 miles on the clock!
The car was saved from a demolition yard in September 1999. It is one of the first Capri's finished in metallic paint and the colour is Evergreen.
Mk II  Project.
The Mk II project is the club Chairman's baby, a 1977 1600 GL model in an unusual Lipstick red. This car has four previous owners and has only covered 68,000 miles from new. When purchased it was in daily use and was run for a while prior to work starting. Despite the low mileage many panels have been replaced due to corrosion. All bodywork has been completed and  the shell has been painted. The engine is in process of being rebuilt and the shell refitted with all running gear etc. Yet again the completion is held up as a result of items being unavailable! Current problem items are an original brake servo and various new clips to attach items under the bonnet such as cables and hoses. As it enters its sixth year it is hoped to be completed for show during 2007!
Mk III Project.

Recent newcomer Carl Tilson purchased a one owner low mileage 1986 1.6 Laser prior to joining the club. Despite its low usage the dreaded rust has made its prescence felt. Carl is to use the car and restore it in stages - the worst bit is the front valance which he has purchased for replacement soon!

Distance member Tony Sewell (Finchley, London) has an interesting 2.0 Laser. Purchased by him in 1991 it recently went around the clock and still has the original engine and gearbox fitted. So what is unusual about that you ask? Well this is not its first time around! It has started its fifth tour of the milometer having recorded more than 400,000 miles! Tony regularly covers 50 K per year!

In addition the Club itself has an ongoing project car which was purchased jointly by the membership as a means of transporting club display material to shows etc as a towing vehicle. This is constantly being improved as time, funds and sponsorship appear! More information is available on the page dedicated to it within this site!

He has now purchased another Mk I for future restoration - whilst searching for the required parts for the 1600 an advert for parts was spied in the Autotrader. Following a trip to Coventry a spot of haggling secured a wealth of brand new Mk I panels, trim, exhausts and much more, plus another Mk I project! This is a 1971 2.0 GTXLR model for which the parts had been destined to be fitted.
Due to his age, finances and insurance difficulties Richard is to concentrate on completing the 1600 restoration first and will start the 2.0 once this is completed.

Despite now having all of the wings needed for the two projects he still however needs a front valence as he does not wish to alter the Mk I version he now has to fit the facelift, as he expects to encounter the same problem when he starts on the 2.0. So if anyone can help out he will be pleased to hear from you! He is hoping to have the bodywork and paint completed during 2007.
